In the very beginning of its existence the Bulgarian National Bank Printing works successfully overcame two serious challenges, which entitled it to a special role in the administrative-and-economic life of Bulgaria:

•   Upon the denomination of the Bulgarian lev in 1999 more than 240,000,000 new banknotes of the 6 nominals were produced for record-breaking short time. In terms of technical characteristics and security elements our banknotes are fully compliant with the contemporary European banknote concept.
•   In the same time, in 1999-2000 the Printing Works produced all quantities required for the replacement of the identity documents with the new ID cards, international passports and driver’s licenses.

    During the “Le Mont - 2000” show the BNB Printing Works was distinguished as one of the best banknotes printing works in Europe. We printed the offset part of the advertising banknote on the show.

    The first Bulgarian commemorative banknote of 20 Bulgarian Levs, issue 2005, has been printed here. The banknote is issued to mark the 120 th anniversary of putting into circulation the first Bulgarian banknote. A new security feature – VARIFEYE ® is applied in the new commemorative banknote. This banknote is considered to be one of the most sophisticated banknotes all over the world.

    Besides in the Bulgarian market, in the past few years, the company also gained experience in the international banknotes and securities market. This was particularly favoured by the fact that the Printing Works is a member of the European Banknote Conference.

    Continuous upgrade of the existing banknotes in circulation is made on for the needs of the Bulgarian National Bank. Thus incorporating of new security elements increases the protection of the banknotes.
